It consists primarily of points of contact for teaching positions in elementary and secondary schools and is limited to organizations that recruit or employ a rather large number of teachers.

Teaching Positions with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS) - Department of Defense Education Activity

The Department of Defense operates schools, kindergarten through 12 grade, in overseas areas for the purpose of providing American, public school type education for minor dependents of active duty military and civilian personnel in overseas areas.

Qualifications:

Qualifications for a teaching position within DoDDS include the following:

  • United States Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 18 semester hours in education courses.
  • Student-teaching or internship.
  • Good physical condition.
  • A selection consideration is one full year of professional teaching experience in the grade or subject for which applying within the past five years.
  • Usually secondary teachers must fully qualify by education and\or experience in two subject fields (i.e., English and physical education; social studies and art; etc.).

Application Procedures:

The processing of requests for employment is conducted by the Department of Defense Education Activity. Applications for teaching positions are accepted year round. Applicants are encouraged to apply by January for employment during the following school year. Interested applicants should contact:
