Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
FedQuest Gold 3.0

  1. When I click on the program download link sent to me by eMetrix.com, nothing happens. What should I do?

The web address (URL) you see may not be formatted as a functioning link (usually formatted as blue and underlined). This may be the case if your e-mail program does not format URLs as live links. (AOL users are typically the customers who have this problem.) You will need to copy the entire URL and paste it into the address window of your browser, then press Enter or click on Go.

  2. When I try to download the program, I get a message that my link has expired. What should I do?

Please send an e-mail message to fqsupport@fedquest.com to request help. Please include your full name and FedQuest Gold OrderID number that was included in the message confirming your purchase. If you have already downloaded the program previously, please include an explanation of why you need to download another copy.

  3. Which version of the Word OF 612 form should I use?

If you are using Word 97, use the Word 97 version; if you are using any later Word version (including Word 2000, Word 2002, or Word/Office XP), use the Word 2000 version. If you are using Word 97, but plan to upgrade in the future, use the Word 97 version, and contact fqsupport@fedquest.com after you upgrade about modifying your form to be fully functional in the new Word version.

  4. How do I enable the macros in the Word version of the OF 612?

To access the boilerplate text, use spell- or grammar-checking, and avoid unexpected loss of information entered into the shaded fields, you must enable the macros when you load the form. When using Microsoft Word 97, you will be asked in a dialog box when you open the document whether you wish to "Enable Macros" or "Disable Macros." Choose "Enable Macros."

When using Microsoft Word 2000 or later (including Word 2002 and Office XP) you may not be prompted with the "Enable Macros" or "Disable Macros" dialog box. The cause is that the macro security level is set to "High" by  default. You will need to close the document (if open) and change the macro security level to "Medium" by performing the following steps:

    1. From the main Word menu, select Tools > Macro > Security.
    2. Set the security level to Medium.
    3. Reopen the OF 612 document. You will be prompted to enable or disable macros. Choose Enable Macros.

Note: Your Word Help file provides this information about the "Medium" security level: "Medium - Word displays a warning whenever it encounters a macro from a source that is not on your list of trusted sources (described later in this topic). You can choose whether to enable or disable the macros when you open the document. If the document might contain a virus, you should choose to disable macros." All FedQuest Gold files are scanned for viruses immediately before being uploaded to our server, and are guaranteed to be virus-free. When you are finished writing and editing your OF 612 form, you may wish to change Word's security level back to "High."

  5. How do I access the boilerplate text in the Word version of the OF 612 form to change it?

To access and replace the boilerplate text in job descriptions, Other Qualifications section, or page headers, you must ensure that macros are enabled (please see the preceding FAQ) and then unprotect the form by clicking on the Padlock icon. If you cannot see the icon, select from the main Word menu View > Toolbars and make sure that Forms is one of the toolbars selected. When finished editing or writing, click the Padlock icon again to restore the normal navigation mode using Tab and Shift-Tab.

An alternate way to unprotect the form is to select from the main menu Tools > Unprotect Document. When finished editing or writing, select Tools > Protect Document to return to the normal navigation mode.

After you have unprotected the document, you will be able to enter information in the page headers by double-clicking on any header. When you are finished editing the header, double-click on the main body of the page, or click on the Close button on the Headers and Footers toolbar. Note: If you cannot see the page header, select from the main Word menu View > Print Layout.
